Photography is a difficult thing to explain.
When I was younger, I didn’t get it. I’d hear photographers talk about how much of themselves they would put into their “work.” But I kept thinking “it’s just a picture. Anyone can take a picture.”
A few years later, I got a digital camera. It was nothing special, just one of the cheap ones from Best Buy. I just wanted something that would preserve moments and memories. Then I realized I could do a little editing to bring back some of the quality that was lost between reality and the jpegs filling up my laptop.
I got hooked.
I could literally paint with light and contrast and color to take normal, everyday scenes and turn them into works of art. It was incredible.
God has given artists the gift of art, and it is not trivial. We must tend to it and foster it.
